Nickyboi

DJ Nickyboi is an 80s baby with 90s style and that new jack swing to keep today’s kids educated and moving on the dance floor. A native of Southern California, Nickyboi has held residencies at Senor Fish in Los Angeles, Hollywood (Falcon, Pig n’ Whistle), and Long Beach (Smooths, Cohiba). He often performs in Los Angeles and the Inland Empire, sharing the stage with 2Mex, Scarub (Living Legends/Afro Classics), MC Supernatural, and MC Prototype. Nickyboi has been known for his ill scratch sessions over breaks and continues to show his crowd a good time wherever he goes.

Surrounded by music since birth and a “Curious George” with any instrument he could get his hands on, Nickyboi took the art of DJing as the perfect way to express himself and his love for all types of music.  His biggest musical influences are: Michael Jackson, Prince, Mos Def, A Tribe Called Quest, Ray Charles, Earth Wind and Fire. Nickyboi considers his friends and crew, The Surf Ninjas, to be his biggest DJing influence. Nickyboi has said, “[The Surf Ninjas] taught me how to DJ. To this day, I learn something new and creative from these boys every time we practice together”.  In 2007 Nickyboi linked up with MC Prototype (of the Urban Poets Crew/Audible Mechanix) and recorded scratches on MC Prototype’s 2009 release, “The Ones Overlooked”. In 2010, the two performed the opening set of The Paid Dues Independent Hip Hop festival, opening for artists: Ice Cube, Dilated Peoples, People Under the Stairs, Afro Classics ft. Scarub of the Living Legends, The Visionaries, and Murs. Known for rocking crowds with classics rather than todays hits, Nickyboi has said, “the biggest pay off…is seeing the crowd grooving to the ol’ skool jams and seeing them singing their hearts out.”
