WBC… Finals Tonight!

I know many of you don’t see me as a sports person, but boy do I love baseball. Japanese baseball to be exact. Don’t ask why, it just runs in the family. I’ve been following every game in the WBC religiously, and I got tix to go to the semi finals game last night. Japan vs USA, AMAZING game. It was good seeing a lot of supporters for team USA too, because the media has been saying that Americans aren’t expecting too much out of the team. (and baseball was born in this country?!) People consider the MLB to be the most prestigious league to play for in baseball. This is why the other countries go balls out and bring in their best players for international tournaments like the WBC – that’s where they get noticed to be recruited for the MLB. This is also why people have said Americans aren’t as into it, because we already have the MLB.
Either way, there’s no doubt that this game was intense! Both teams scoring back and forth, resulting in a score of 9-4, Japan. The Americans started the game by hitting the 2nd ball behind the fence, but Japan’s offense exploded in the bottom of the 4th, scoring 5 runs. I was sitting in a section full of Japan fans… every time we started chanting stuff in Japanese, the American fans behind us would yell, “No, the opposite of that!” It was pretty funny.
The finals are tonight! Japan vs Korea 6:30pm! Watch it. Share my excitement.
BTW that’s a photo of Ichiro.

Barack Obama on Jay Leno
President Obama on Jay Leno. “We need more young Americans that are Engineers and Scientists… not more investment bankers” FUCK YEAH Less douches please! Lots of the right things are said let’s see the Americans listen to this man hopefully. “Americans need to be responsible again” Fuck that’s an concept be responsible for what you do. No wonder the whole world thinks Americans are idiots. Anyways It’s time for a change!

Valentino Kanzyani – Flying
This week you get another look far back (sort of). This track is the essence of the kind of electronic music that got me started.
Okay, that’s a bit of a lie. My very first exposure to electronic music was The Prodigy – Firestarter. I was introduced to that song by a good friend back in the summer of 2000, and ever since I have been living and breathing this stuff.
This track, however, is very representative of the kind of funktastically tribal tech-house that was played at live gigs I started attending after hearing Firestarter. We called it “pumping techno,” and I suppose that is still a pretty damn good way to describe it, though I’m sure we could start a minor subgenre naming war about it.
With all due respect to all the artists and styles I’ve discovered since – and it has been quite a journey – this stuff still gets me going like nothing else.
Since music is really good at speaking for itself, I’ll shut up and hand you Valentino Kanzyani – Flying.
Enjoy (responsibly).

Jason Mixed’s Track of the Week #6
Jason Mixed here once again with the Track of the Week.
This week Since I missed last week is an Album feature! Gui Boratto – Take My Breath Away
Fucking techno goodness all over the place here. My favorite track from the CD No Turning Back featuring his Wife Luciana Villanova once again. Which I think is a proper followup to his breakout song Beautiful Life.
Be sure to check him out on beatport

I don’t really like bounce so much but electronic music on American TV is the step in the right direction for pop culture?
Be sure to check out NORE checking his iPhone on stage. Apparently he was checking his twitter!

Why didn’t I think of this first? Probably won’t work in the poorer neighborhoods.

Lie to Me
“Lie to Me” is a TV show. No, really.
Tim Roth stars as Dr. Lightman, a quick-minded expert on facial expressions (and related gestures) that hint at whether a person is lying or not. His day-to-day duties largely consist of consulting work for the government and private clients conducting somewhat unorthodox investigations usually revolving around equally unorthodox interrogations.
I could go on droning about the relatively boring setup, but the simple truth is that both Jason and I are hopelessly addicted to this show. So, I am going to advise something a lot more fun: actually watching it.
We here at The Noise Academy support no illegal means of acquiring this material, so I suggest you go make friends with Hulu.
Enjoy. And you’re welcome.

Once again, things that could’ve been brought to my attention YESTERDAY!
On a more serious, tech-nerd note, Apple is set to preview their new operating system update (3.0!) for the iPhone (and iPod touch by association) tomorrow. The biggest new “feature” rumored?
Copy and paste.
Yeah.
It’s kind of silly to be all over features that should have been in the original release, but it kind of makes sense to not throw everything and the kitchen sink into a new product that is your company’s first step into a market that you have never been in before.
On the other hand, it is Apple’s ability to withhold features, like 3G capability, GPS, camera flash, Flash, push notification, copy and paste, etc., only to introduce them later not to consumer anger and apathy but joy, the forking over of credit cards, and customer lines outside their stores on launch day that frustrate and befuddle Apple competitors and the competitors’ fanboys to no end.
But of course, you could always end up with Vista. Well played, Apple, well played.

Wild Wacky Action Bike
It’s creepy, it’s crawly, but I’m not sold until I can see it climb up stairs. When that happens I can finally ditch these useless biological bipedal legs for awesome cyborg mechanical walkers.

The new shuffle…
looks like a jump drive.

They’ve managed to make the new shuffle 1/2 the size of the previous one by removing the buttons from the player to the ear buds cord. It now holds about 1000 songs instead of 240.
but is smaller always better?
I bet you they’re gonna be making ear plugs that play MP3s pretty soon… if they haven’t done so already.
For all you Beat Monsters out there
I killed so many hours with this thing! I wish I had a sense of rhythm…
long weekend
so after a long weekend of debauchery and a mystical time change (day light savings time), it is monday. the day in which you have to start your week, but in my case, it is the day where i end my week since i have nothing else to do with my life.
i was able to follow the goonies crew to a bboy jam and check out some battles, BUT since i didn’t follow the cardinal rule of technology (always keep a back up battery) i wasn’t able to get any good images/footage of the jam. yes i know, rookie mistake. don’t worry, it resulted in a boring blog post that you are going to shamelessly enjoy.

senses was also bananas!!! thank you everyone for coming out. one set of pictures are available here

New Stock Footage…
SENSES last night… if you weren’t there, you missed out. BIGTIME.
DJs Giant Squid, Equip, and City Technicians kept the music bumpin til the early morning, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Terrace that packed. (Walking to the bathroom was like fighting my way through a level of Left4Dead…)
I was running video most of the night, so thanks to those who came over to kick it with me (and buy me drinks, haha). I’m getting a bit tired of the stock footage we’ve been running, so Joaquin and I may delete everything and put some crazy new shit up there for the last SENSES on April 4…

Thanks to all of you who made it out last night – The Noise Academy would be nothing without all of you crazy people, who make every event that we host a unique experience. Our year-long experiment at the Terrace has been full of upsand downs, and now it’s about to come to a close.
There’s one more SENSES left, and I won’t be happy unless we blow the fucking roof off the place. I want to see everybody come out on APRIL 4, and send us off with a BANG.

SENSES - April 4th
PEACE.

Jason Mixed’s Track of the Week #5
Hey what’s up everyone sorry for missing last week’s Track of the week to make it up for you guys I’m doing an Artist feature this week. So two tracks this week from a new artist I found while beatporting Uppermost. Some french, Canadian inspired sounding Electro (if that makes sense). Basically Uppermost is from Paris, France but sounds like the Canadian Deadmau5.
Enjoy!
Uppermost – Equivocal
