Coachella 2009 Announced

A LOT BETTER THAN LAST YEAR

Here’s something really interesting:

“Music festivals offer fans the option of layaway tickets

By Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY
Fans who can’t pony up the bucks for a colossal music festival touting big acts on multiple stages have an alternative.

Pay in multiple stages.

Layaway plans, recently resurrected by Sears and other retail chains, will be available to consumers who buy tickets to several 2009 festivals, including the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. It returns April 17-19 in Indio, Calif.

After the indie-rock fest lineup is unveiled this week, fans will have two options besides money up front when buying a $269 three-day pass: pay half down and the rest April 1, or pay 10% followed by equal installments on March 1 and April 1 without interest or additional fees. The plans are sold only online and aren’t available for $99 single-day admission.

Layaway systems already are in place for the Stagecoach Country Music Festival, Country Thunder USA and the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, which offered an installment service last year.”

Jason Mixed’s Track Of the Week #1

Hey what’s up everyone!

I’m starting up a new thing I’ve been thinking about for a while. I’ve always wanted to do a track of the week. I’ve just been lazy about it. But at last no more! Without farther ado Jason Mixed’s Track of the week is here.

And for the first one I’m taking out out from the graveyard. It’s Modjo – Lady. If you haven’t heard this track before you are in for a real treat. Sexy vocals and funky basslines the definition of house music.

El Monte Chases

chase-002

So as I sat here doing the other post, I hear a bunch of a sirens and see a lot of lights… of course its another chase! My sister ran into my room and told me it was goin on. We waited for the news and there you have it… HIGH SPEED CHASE! It passed by the house 3 times and it was quite exciting to see who it was that was in there. I’m sure my sister will talk about at school tomorrow.  So of course we, as a family, yell at the broadcasters for getting the street names wrong. The chase ends up stopping after they run over a spike strip. When word got out of where he was stopped, of course in El Monte fashion, everyone comes out making it look like a scene right out of Grand Theft Auto. DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE IS A GUN IN THE CAR! But of course, this is El Monte. Can’t be choosy of your neighbors. I may be a little prouder at that moment.

Amazing Inaugural Picture

barack1

Check out New York Photographer’s, David Bergman, newest creation. It is a whopping 1,474 megapixel snapshot of the Inaugural event last week! check it out here. He utilized a Canon G10, which is a beautiful camera by the way, and fused together 220 shots. Pretty ridiculous!

More Let’s Bounce!

Here’s a video interview of Swedish Egil himself.

Dude, Where’s My Music?

I use Beatport and was about to re-download the few tracks I’ve bought on there (I want them on my laptop as well, and I was too lazy to use my flash drive), so I went to my library to see how to mark them all for re-downloading and found out something interesting: Beatport only lets you re-download tracks for up to 4 hours after purchase time.

Technical aspects of it aside, this got me wondering whether this was an acceptable policy or a straight-up slap across the collective face of all their customers.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like it’s a rip-off. I see this as purchasing the rights to listen to these tracks and play them out. Those rights don’t get nullified just because particular instances of these bytes disappear. This isn’t physical media (like vinyl or CDs), and Beatport has no “inventory” that would get depleted with constant re-downloads.

The counter-argument (which I actually understand) is that re-downloading costs Beatport bandwidth, and thus providing the service isn’t as cost-free as it might seem at first.

Discuss.

(I copied the tracks to my laptop via the flash drive in the end, so all is well in my world at the moment.)

RelS 380 @ CSULA

Alright, people, I have a Public Service Announcement for y’all:

DO NOT TAKE RELS 380 AT CAL STATE LA!

It is deathly boring.

The title of the class is “Emotion in Religion,” and I was hoping it would be interesting to at least some degree, but no.

It looks like all we’ll be doing is looking at how various major religions deal with emotions in general, as well as specifically with some good and bad emotions.

When I tried to stirr up some trouble on the first day I got as far as “I gave up on the Church in 2nd grade” before everyone started moaning and groaning. Apparently I’m the only one here who likes a bit of controversy in the classroom.

For what it’s worth, it seems like I’m the only atheist in the class. We have two agnostics, one Muslim, two Buddhists, one Aztec/Mayan/African, a few “spiritual but not religious” types, and the rest are all Protestants and Catholics.

All in all, quite disappointing. [insert frowny face here]

~Nik

Let’s Bounce!

The DJ club @ UCSD once a year throws a big party called let’s bounce.  This year it featured Swedish Egil and boy he rocked the crowd.  I had an amazing time at his set.  Especially on stage with the crowd in the Price Center.

swedishegil

We had the lines stretching around the building it was insane the amount of people that were showing to this event.
bounce_01-10-2009-040The crowd energy all night was amazing.  3 areas 15 DJ’s an international music festival.  We had DJ’s from Australia, Mexico, Russia, and of course locals from San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.  In fact one of the DJ’s at the event was a math professor at UCSD!  Micheal Volpato! If you don’t believe me you can come down to UCSD and attend one of his lecures: Calculus @ 12PM and Mathmatical Reasoning @ 2PM!michealvolpato
and my favorite track of the night was a mash up played by swedish egil.

Together As One 2009

To those who don’t live in LA, Together as one is a joint venture New year’s Eve party by Insomniac Events and Go Ventures.  I had a damn good time.  The crowd was good.  The Music was insane.  And we left with many stories to tell.  Just ask Luke, Kiko, or Nik from the TNA team they will tell you what they took and didn’t take to make this a memorable NYE.

Armin van Buuren is always known for his marathon sets.  He loves spinning to a giant crowd and loves to do it for a long time.  So this year in the main arena it was Armin Only! The man spun for 9 freakin’ hours!  9 hours man!  Any fan of electronic music will appreciate that.  I don’t know how he did it but he did.

Armin only!
Armin only!

Another Artist we saw that night was the up and coming super hyped up Deadmau5.  His productions would probably be on every mix CD in house this year.  From his electro smash Ghosts N Stuff to his progressive collab I remember with Kaskade, he had everyone’s ear this year in terms of production.  So if you don’t know the mau5 you’ve been a hole.

vegas pt2: NEW YEARS edition

so i get back from vegas, stay home for 24 hours, then head back to vegas for new years. i end up losing my friends and headed out on the strip w/o the people i headed to vegas with, but overall met up with a lot of people that are friends of new and old. vegas is the happiest place on earth, disneyland and suck a duck.

this was my first time in vegas for new years and it was a blast. they say that your first is always something that you’ll remember. and this mos def is something that i will always remember. i would post details, but i don’t wanna get flagged by anyone for some redonkulous actions that happened. “what happens in vegas, stays in vegas!”

i blew into a portable breathalyzer that a friend brought. after it tested me, it said “H”. i was like wtf is “H”? my homie tells me that your alcohol content is too high for the breathalyzer to read. i asked for confirmation from the manual, and it reads as “H: the signs of a sloppy drunk.” yes, that is a confirmation.
breath-a-lie-zer

in front of the bellagio. VEGAS BABY!
